Your Guide To Celebrating Mabon

This blogpost was originally posted by The Moonlight Shop here: Your Guide To Celebrating Mabon

Mabon signifies a celebration of the second harvest and the circle of existence. This period signifies the end of harvest, as fields are nearly barren and what has been gathered is stored in anticipation of winter or Yule.

Mabon also indicates the time when day and night are balanced. The soil is beginning to harden and cool, marking the end of planting, as the Earth readies itself for winter.

For our ancestors, Mabon was particularly meaningful, and it should hold the same significance for us Wiccans. Taking a moment to reflect and express gratitude for the abundance in our lives is essential, recognizing how the Earth Goddess consistently provides us with food and shelter.

As a Wiccan who is connected to the changing seasons and the cycle of the year, it is important to make time to celebrate Mabon and consider how you wish to shape your life moving forward. Here, we offer tips for decorating your altar for Mabon, suggestions for food to prepare, and rituals to undertake.

Mabon Altar Decoration

Your Mabon altar should reflect autumnal colors, such as yellows, oranges, browns, and greens, as well as symbols of the season like sickles, scythes, and baskets.

Incorporating seasonal herbs, leaves, and flowers, like sunflowers, mistletoe, chamomile, passionflower, oak, and yarrow, enhances the altar.

Consider lighting incense or smudging with sage and sweetgrass on your altar.

Mabon Food Preparation

The dishes you prepare for Mabon should revolve around harvest crops, featuring items like corn muffins, wheat bread, squash soup, pomegranate drink, apple pies, apple chips, pumpkin seeds, and assorted root vegetables.

as I express my gratitude and offer my thanks
Blessed Be!”
7. Begin sharing your expressions of thanks. For instance:
“[Mother Goddess], I appreciate you for granting me good health.”
“[Mother Goddess], I thank you for providing me a home.”
“[Mother Goddess], I am grateful for the crops harvested and food on my table.”
“[Mother Goddess], I thank you for safeguarding my family.”
(you may continue adding to this..)
I am thankful for what I possess.
I do not mourn for what I lack.
I have more than some, less than others,
yet, I feel blessed with
what is mine.

8. Offer thanks to your Deity and say goodbye.
9. Close the circle.
10. Enjoy your Mabon feast.

Remember that gratitude should not fade after Mabon. One crucial lesson of Mabon is that gratitude is a daily practice because the Goddess has given everything you require and placed it before you.

We wish you a joyful and warm Mabon! 🙂 Blessed be!
