Black Represents Good Fortune
In numerous regions of the US and Europe, black cats are often viewed as ominous harbingers of misfortune. Many people refuse to let a black cat cross their path. This unfortunate mindset is a factor in why so many black cats find themselves in shelters. Additionally, shelters are hesitant to adopt out black cats to individuals who express a preference for them, fearing they may be subjected to malevolent intentions.
There are countless black cats eager for affection and care, yet they suffer due to their coloration and outdated superstitions.
It truly is disheartening. Almost every witch adores having a black cat. A black cat symbolizes good luck. We are fortunate to encounter a black cat, and we would never deny entrance to one that wanders into our lives. Having a black cat is believed to provide protection for your home and those within it. These sensitive creatures are attuned to the spirit realm, capable of dispelling negative energies and helping us in our magickal practices.
Choosing a Name for Your Black Cat
Naming your black cat is an important milestone. It’s essential to thoughtfully select a name as it will be its identity for its entire life. For inspiration, consider names that reflect your cat’s features, such as “Bat” for a feline with large ears or “Panda” for a black cat with white patches or “Raven” inspired by its glossy black coat!
You could also choose a name based on when you got your cat, like Luna for a feline that appeared with the full moon or Zodiac if you adopted your cat on your birthday. Of course, these are merely suggestions, so feel free to unleash your creativity! As long as the name holds significance for you, your furry companion will sense and appreciate the thought behind it.

Trivia: Did You Know That In The 90s, acquiring a black cat during Halloween was prohibited?
Individuals looking to adopt a black cat or cats around Halloween would often be turned away from shelters. This policy is due to the awareness that some cults sacrifice black cats during their rites, leading to many of these animals being used as scapegoats and mistreated during Halloween festivities, only to be abandoned afterwards. Even if someone comes in with good intentions, the timing raises suspicions, causing shelters to be cautious about the safety of the black cats.
How did you decide on your black cat’s name? Do you have any stories about your feline companion to share? Please do so in the comments section below. 🙂
My black cat chose me more than I chose him. When a litter was only a few weeks old they were dropped at my sister’s farm. I was visiting and I went to see them…not planning on taking one home. She kept them up on an old door on sawhorses so the dogs would leave them and their food alone. It was a litter of mixed colored furballs, their eyes were still blue, and very tiny and timid. All but one..the only black one in the litter almost fell off the door trying to get to me, so I scooped him up and he has been with me ever since. That was 18 years ago. His name is Oliver P. Brat, named after one of my favorite actors of the time, Oliver Platt. He goes by “Oliver” or “Ollie Love” and his eyes are green unless he is upset then they look more golden.
I don’t have any black cats but I do have two black dogs that I love dearly and they’re part of my family so I guess I can could consider them my black cats

, I am sooo excited that are on our mailing list… I have sooo much awesomeness to share with you 🙂
For example, did you know that one of the most common questions we get here at The Moonlight Shop
is:
“Which Pentacle would be best for me” or “Please help me choose the best Pentacle for my (insert family member here)”.
And I totally get why it can be hard to choose. Afterall, a good Pentacle will be around for more or less the rest of your life… and maybe even longer.
So to help you out, here’s some things to consider, to help you choose the right Pentacle for YOU:
Design:
You can get everything from VERY plain pentacles, like The Pentacle of Ancestors to one with more symbolism like The Pentacle of the Moon or The Spell Casters Pendant .
As a general rule, find a design that speaks to you and help express who YOU are a person.
Afterall, you’ll be wearing your new Pentacle a lot, so you might as well get one you like to look at.
Personally, I LOVE symbolism, so The Brooms of Elder is one of my all time favorites.
Crystals:
Crystals can really help enhance the powers of the Pentacle. It also keep the Pentacle fashionable and awesome too look at.
You can get pentacles with very few birth crystals and others with many more. For example The Pentacle of the Witch (which have 5 crystals).
It’s a common misconception that you can only wear Jewelry with your own birthstones.
That’s not true!
It’s correct that you’ll often get the most benefit from wearing your own birth-crystals, but that doesn’t mean you won’t reap the benefits of wearing other crystals as well.
If you have trouble keeping calm, you would benefit from wearing a Pentacle with Amethyst crystals (even if you are not born in February).
The thing to remember when it comes to birth-crystal pentacles is that they are best to help you with specific struggles. Take the Pentacle of the Black Onyx for example… it’s a really nice and powerful Pentacle, but it’s true powers lie in how it helps shield you from negative energy.
Animals (and other protectors):
Some pentacles are tied closely together with specific symbols and the entire design revolves around achieving a specific outcome or connecting to a specific type of protectors.
Usually, these are not “all-round” pentacles, but more meant to be used for specific purposes..
For example, ” The New Beginnings Necklace ” is designed specifically to help you when you are starting on a new path in life. But it also has the Pentacle, to offer you protection (you are often vulnerable when starting something new).
The Draconian Pentacle on the other hand, is made especially for helping you connect with your Dragon Guardian.
These kinds of Pentacles are the best of two worlds. A compromise if you will. They usually won’t work as good when doing magick and rituals that’s not related to the specific outcome it’s designed for.
My personal recommendations:
There are so many different Pentacles to choose from that it can be a little overwhelming.
Take your time. Read about the different Pentacles and take your time. Don’t rush it, but listen to your gut feeling.
Remember that even though buying a Pentacle can be a big decision, you cannot really go wrong.
Each Pentacle has its own strengths and chances are that you will end up owning more than one (if you don’t already).
With time, you will know exactly what each of your Pentacles are good for.
Here’s some Pentacles you should check out :
Pentacle of the Black Onyx
Pentacle of the Moon
New Beginnings Necklace
The Pentacle of Power
Pentacle of the Witch
Brooms Of Elder Pentacle Necklace
Brooms of Elder with Birthstones
Runes of Divination Necklace
The Draconian Pentacle
I hope you find something you like 🙂
Blessed Be my friend!

I named my black cat Bear because he came to me as a stray with his mother and 4 siblings. After about 2 days he was the only kitten left alive after opossums had attacked and eaten his siblings. He was not afraid to stand up and fight, even as little as he was. During the time that he and his family appeared at my house, I was dealing with the fact that my mother was dying from Cancer. On the day that my mother died, Bear’s mother was struck by a car in front of my house and died. My sister buried her in our yard. It was then that I knew he was meant to be with me. I adore this cat and he is my little shadow.

I have 2 black cats. As soon as I saw them, I knew that they belonged to me <3 and now, they are 7 months old. I gave them their names after my 2 Goddesses, Hecate and Hathor. I love them dearly and forever <3
I truly believe black cats are smarter then others which makes sense as to why the Egyptians worshipped them. I named my first black cat Boo, because in the dark you could only see his bright yellow eyes. He would fetch and do so many amazing things before he was taken by panleukopenia. My following 2 were Spooky and Jinx. I will forever prefer to have black cats then any other.
If I had a black cat, I’d name it Anise for the plant that gives licorice its flavor.
I had a black cat named Salem. He was my baby. When he passed, my grandchildren got me two more. The male is Crowley after the Crowley on Supernatural because he’s a bully but yet lovable. ( The name fits him too lol ) The female is named Sephira, after the dragon on Eragon although spelled differently. The name fits her too.
I have a black cat named Remy. I work at one of the shelters nearby and they still don’t adopt out black cats around Halloween
Named my newly adopted companion Auriel for the Archangel Uriel, who is also represented by Key 15 in the Tarot – the Black/brown “devil.” She is beautifully black with some brown on the sides and is really a ray of light – Auriel/Uriel means Light of God.
