As Summer approaches, it brings not only longer days and thriving crops but also June’s full moon, known as the strong sun moon.
Also referred to as The Moon of Horses, Honey Moon, and The Lover’s Moon, like any full moon, the psychic energy is abundant during this time. This period is ideal for magick, especially to connect with the various elements.
During this full moon, focus on protective spells, strengthening spells, preventive spells, and those that revolve around maintaining and enhancing what you already possess in your life. Whether it’s in a relationship, career, or education, you might also seek guidance in decision-making and accountability. If you’ve struggled with consistency, now is the moment to seek strength to remain resolute in your journey.
However, it’s important not to dwell solely on your weaknesses. This is also an occasion for positivity. Make sure to reward yourself for your achievements and recognize your admirable qualities.
Sun Moon Ritual
Gathering with fellow Wiccans outdoors to perform a ritual under the sun moon is a wonderful idea.
This ritual works best with four or more participants. Each individual can bring a selection of herbs, flowers, solar symbols, seawater, and seashells to place on the altar. Additionally, everyone should bring quarter candles, cakes, ale, wine, fruit juice, and water. For the candles, it’s recommended to include representations for the four cardinal directions: green for the north, red for the south, yellow for the east, and blue for the west.
Each participant should stand in their respective quarter, facing the altar with an unlit candle. The person in the north lights their candle, holds it skyward, and declares:
“We call upon the powers of Earth,
and welcome you to this circle.
The sun’s warmth has nurtured the earth
and will provide us with the bounty of the soil,
once harvest time arrives.”
Then, they should place the candle on the altar.
The individual in the east will say this before placing their candle:
“We call upon the powers of Air,
and welcome you to this circle.
May the winds bless us with unity
and bonding among family and friends,
during this season of light and growth.”
“Place the candle on the altar.”
The participant in the south mirrors this action:
“We call upon the powers of Fire,
and welcome you to this circle.
May the illuminated light of this season’s moon
guide us at night,
just as the sun has brightened our days.”
“Place the candle on the altar.”
Now it’s the west’s turn:
“We call upon the powers of Water,
and welcome you to this circle.
Though the earth may dry and suffer
during the long hot weeks of summer,
we know that rains will return
and bring life once more.”
Everyone should then join hands and recite:
“We gather tonight by the light of the moon,
to celebrate the season, and rejoice.
May the next turn of the Wheel bless us with love
and compassion, abundance and prosperity,
fertility and life.
As the moon above, so the earth below.”
God and Goddess Pendant from the Moonlight Shop
Take turns sipping the wine or fruit juice. After each sip, the person should share with the group what they are eagerly anticipating and what they wish to manifest in the coming month.
Following the ritual, everyone can retreat to their own spaces for a moment of gratitude and reflection on the growth that has happened since last Spring, along with the potential for future growth.
