What are some kid-friendly activities to mark each Sabbat?
Engaging the whole family
Getting your family involved in celebrating the Sabbats can be lots of fun! Here are some kid-friendly ideas. These activities will help your little ones to learn about each festival while having a great time together.
- Samhain (October 31st): Create spooky decorations! Use black paper to make bats, ghosts, and pumpkins. You can also carve pumpkins together!
- Yule (Winter Solstice): Make bird feeders out of pine cones, peanut butter, and birdseed. Hang them outside to help the birds in winter. Sing Yule songs around your tree and share special family stories!
- Imbolc (February 1st): Light candles and have a candle-making day! Use beeswax sheets or make simple dipped candles. Talk about Brigid and what spring means to you.
- Ostara (Spring Equinox): Plant seeds in your garden or in pots. Decorate eggs with paint or natural dyes. Have an Easter egg hunt with a twist, hiding symbols of spring and new life!
- Beltane (May 1st): Create flower crowns! Go outside and gather flowers and leaves. Jump the broom together as a fun way to celebrate love and fertility.
- Litha (Summer Solstice): Have a picnic outside! Bring your favorite foods and enjoy nature. You can make friendship bracelets to celebrate the light and joy of summer.
- Lughnasadh (August 1st): Bake with the harvest! Try making bread or pies with seasonal fruits. Share stories of the harvest and why it’s important to give thanks.
- Mabon (Autumn Equinox): Go on a nature walk to collect leaves, acorns, and pine cones. Make a nature collage or an altar using what you find. Talk about gratitude and the change of seasons.
Each Sabbat is a special time to celebrate nature and the cycles of life. By involving children in these activities, we help them connect to the earth and their spiritual path.
